We should be able to get all our nutrition from the food we eat.

Unfortunately for various reasons, this is no longer the case.

I was having a conversation with a lady I met the other day, we were discussing how we should be able to get all our nutrition from the food we eat, which you would think should be true and once was. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case.

There are 2 main reasons why this is.

The first reason; food doesn’t have as many nutrients in it anymore.

Through modern farming practices, transportation, storage, processing and cooking; it’s quite common to lose 90-100% of nutritional value from the food that we are about to eat. Add to that, the modern day processed food (white foods, such as sugar, white bread, white rice and processed breakfast foods) are full of empty calories and often contain extra sugar. Unfortunately, in our modern society, these foods make up a large percentage of people’s diet.

The second reason: Toxins & Stress!

We’re now exposed to more environmental toxins than our bodies were ever meant to handle. These toxins come in many forms and from a variety of sources such as; air pollution, water contamination, soil contamination, household cleaning products, personal care products, and food. Add to all that, the stress of just living in this modern society and you have quite a lot of load your body wasn’t designed for. These factors significantly increase the body’s nutrient demands.

So with this in mind, even if our food had the all the nutrients it should have, with these extra demands our body has even the best food would not be enough, thus our need for supplementation is beyond question…
